Regarding Roberta's Background in Information Technology
Roberta
has been working in the area of Information Technology for
over 20 years. She worked for computer consulting firms
and software design companies during the late 80’s
and early 90’s providing software training and technical
support to clients while also performing software testing
duties and writing software documentation.
In
1989, Roberta was involved in the organization and management
of Hypertext ’89, an International Conference sponsored
by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) that was
held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her involvement in the
conference provided valuable experience in both conference
management and computer consulting. That experience was
the springboard for her successful career in Information
Technology.
Between
1989 and 1992, Roberta worked for computer consulting firms
in varied capacities. She was directly involved in the installation
of computer hardware and software at client locations as
well as customer support, software testing, software training,
and software documentation.
In
1993, Roberta’s technical expertise expanded into
the area of real estate and real estate law. She was involved
in hardware and software installation as well as software
training, support, and documentation. She was employed as
the Technical Coordinator for a Pittsburgh law firm. Her
responsibilities for the firm included the expansion of
the computing capabilities of the four-office firm, the
training of all employees and attorneys, and the streamlining
of all processes of the firm in an effort to automate and
cut costs.
During
this time, Roberta worked as a liaison between the law firm
and the primary software company in an effort to develop
changes that met the needs of the firm’s growing technology
requirements. Roberta was involved in the implementation
of automation in regards to real estate closings and escrow
accounting as well as word processing and document storage.
After
a brief move to IT support in the health care industry,
Roberta found a profound interest in software support and
training as it related to design engineering. From 1995
through 1999, Roberta was employed as a Technical Support
Manager for a software development company that specialized
in engineering software. During that time she traveled extensively
throughout the United States training customers in the use
of a specialized engineering software program. Roberta visited
client sites including Lockheed Martin, Hughes Corporation,
Boeing, 3M, and Eastman Kodak where she performed software
training seminars for staff engineers.
In
1999 Roberta left her full-time position to start her company,
Biros Merchandising. She took roughly four months to establish
the company, develop the website, and establish on-line
products and inventory. Once the business was set up, Roberta
returned to full-time employment for a professional society
in Warrendale, PA, as a Web and Data Manager. She ran her
business in her spare time while fulfilling her full-time
responsibilities as a web developer.
During
this period from 1999 through 2004, Roberta was involved
in the development of new on-line initiatives in an effort
to expand the capabilities of the society including an on-line
system for selling digital articles to society members.
In
2004, Roberta decided to concentrate on her business on
a full-time basis. She has been focused on her business
exclusively since that time.
